KS3 Spelling Bee


The Oxford German Olympiad is an annual competition run by the Oxford German Network to promote German language and culture among school pupils across the UK.

Every year, GCHQ runs a National Language Competition aimed at Year 9 students.
Back in July 2025, pupils from all year groups were invited to take part in the Stephen Spender Prize for Translation run by the Stephen Spender Trust.
On the 17th October the Year 9 Japanese class accompanied by some Year 10s made our way to Royal Albert Hall to watch the Schools’ Sumo Presentation.

On 24th June, 7 brave debate year 12 teams from BGS welcomed teams from Beths Grammar School, Dartford Grammar School and Eltham College to discuss the motion: University is still worth it! As if taking part in a debate with students from other schools, the participants were debating in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese or Japanese.
