Government Outreach Programme 'Where languages can take you'
Last week, a group of Year 9 and Year 8 students had the opportunity to participate in a Government Outreach Programme entitled Where languages can take you.
Pupils listened with interest to linguists working with the Civil Service Language Network in South Korea, the Border Force at Heathrow Airport and a mysterious GCHQ employee using a variety of the languages to keep the country safe. Pupils were encouraged to reflect on how language skills could help them in any future career and come away feeling inspired and excited about the opportunities languages give for travel and cultural understanding.
Mrs Watkins, MFL Department
It was an exciting opportunity to hear from a linguist, a border officer and a diplomat. During the event, I learnt how important language skills are for various careers, from government roles to international organisations. The speakers shared valuable insights about how languages can open doors to different career paths, and it was inspiring to hear how language learning has shaped their professional journey.
