National School Sports Week 2024 ~ Part 2

BGS supports the ethos of NSSW. Why encourage participation? Participating in National School Sports Week isn't just about scoring goals or winning races; it's about fostering a culture of health, wellbeing, and inclusivity within your school community. We encourage students to lead healthier, more active lives, but also promote teamwork, leadership, and resilience, all essential skills for success in school and beyond.

What have we been up to over the past few weeks?

In line with National Cricket week (Monday 17th June), U15 Girls Cricket v Blackheath, was a scorching afternoon at Blackheath, with super bowling and batting with the girls being victorious with a win of 256 to 228. They were very shy and didn’t want a photo, so a long-distance picture had to do! It was a pleasure to take these girls to this fixture. Well done to Darina who was voted the opposition player of the match!

Friday 21st June, Year 8 tennis competition

Year 8 students took part in a tennis competition before school, in preparation for Wimbledon. Some opted for something a bit different this morning in the form of football/tennis. The winners were Turkey!

Year 7 Sport Science

Year 7 Sport Science students had a taster session of the few events that are coming up this summer, as well as identifying technology that may be used in football, tennis and cricket. Some of these included: a Geography challenge for the Euros and a literacy challenge for the Paris Olympics.

Football Competitions in PE Lessons

There has been plenty of competition within lessons all linked to Euro 2024.  Football competitions have been played in a great spirit with some very happy winning teams!

Year 7 Cricket

Year 7 cricket continued to be popular and games against Wilmington Grammar School and Beths during National School Sports Week once again showed their dedication to participating and representing the school.  Well done to all those involved!

Year 7 Girls' Foot/golf

The Year 7 girls demonstrated their foot/golf skills during National School Sports Week.  Accuracy, patience and a bit of power were required around the 12 hole course.  Some super tricky shots were made.  Well done girls!

Year 7 Tennis Club

It was nice that, in National School Sports Week, the sunshine decided to finally join us on a Wednesday morning for the tennis club.  Always well attended, the training games that normally become very competitive were put to one side to focus on matchplay and the rules of scoring.  Tennis will surely be a sport that these fantastic pupils play for the rest of their lives!
