Thank you, Year 13 Senior Prefect Team!

On Friday 24th March, the current Year 13 Senior Prefect Team handed over to the upcoming Year 12s. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience receiving all the lessons and advice they'd learned over the past year, and the flapjacks certainly helped ease any tension!  We, as the new Senior Prefect team, look forward to our new roles and responsibilities and stepping into the seemingly enormous boots left behind by Christabel's team. We wish the Year 13s all the best and many thanks for making our new job much less daunting!

Matthew Linane, Year 12 Senior Prefect

Congratulations new Year 12 Senior Prefect Team!

Dear Parents / Carers,

I'm tremendously proud to be featuring in this newsletter as the sixth Head of Bexley Grammar School. A large part of the joy of working at this school is the relationships built between staff and students, of which the Senior Prefect Team are a huge part. They act as a conduit between the student body and the School's Leadership Team, providing a valuable source of feedback and advice.

I know I speak for Mr Elphick in thanking the outgoing Prefect Team and wishing them the very best of luck for the future.

As one door closes, however, another one opens, and I look forward to working with Lydia and her team in the coming year.

Growing Positive

Year 11 were joined by Year 12 students as part of a whole school mentoring programme known as Growing Positive, where Sixth Form students interact with the younger years to pass on their knowledge and wisdom. Students were discussing the Sixth Form at BGS, including details about how to spend their study periods, extracurricular, use of Sixth Form spaces, how to organise and manage their time, advice on revision and much more. Students across both year groups were well engaged, and I look forward to Year 11 joining the Sixth Form in September.

Mr Martin, Head of Sixth Form

Lunchtime Lingos Club

Are you in Year 7 or 8? Do you like learning about different languages and cultures? Are you curious about what it’s like to speak multiple languages and interact with people from different backgrounds? Are you looking for a fun and engaging extracurricular activity that will help you stand out on college and university applications? If you said yes to any of these questions, come along to Lunchtime Lingos! Learning a new language can be challenging but incredibly rewarding. The Lunchtime Lingos Club can provide the support and resources you need to succeed.

The club is run by our fellow Language Leaders of Year 9s, and most of us are fluent in at least one other language. Our team is very open to learning about diverse languages and cultures around the world!

So far, the club's activities have included origami, French and German board games, and multilingual role-play. These activities are not only fun but also help students develop their language skills by practising speaking and listening in different languages.

In the upcoming sessions, the club is planning to introduce other foreign languages, which include languages like Arabic, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese, to explore a variety of languages and gain exposure to different cultures.

Towards the end of the term, we are going to host a karaoke event featuring songs from around the world! You can practise your language skills and learn about different music styles from different parts of the world.

Overall, the language club is a fantastic way for you to broaden your horizons, learn new languages, and have fun while doing it. If you’re interested, feel free to come along to L13 on Tuesdays at 13:00!
