Young Enterprise Successes
The 10X Challenge
Last term saw Year 10 Business Studies students participate in the 10X Challenge by Young Enterprise. Students arranged themselves into groups and were loaned £10 from the school. They had four weeks to run their businesses and the results have been phenomenal!
Students were able to put theory into practice and source the best (or cheapest) suppliers, conduct market research, develop their sales skills, improve their customer service and fine tune their finance skills. The businesses included services such as car washing while products included jewellery, keyrings, computer screens and craft kits - just some of the many logos can be seen here. It certainly created a buzz in the year group!
After students repaid their £10 loans (£180 in total, with 18 groups), the total profits made were £2078.43!
Well done to all who participated, you should be very proud of yourselves!

Young Enterprise Team ~ Tug of Paw
Five representatives from this year's Young Enterprise team, Tug of Paw, competed against other school teams in the London & Kent Finals of the Company Programme competition on Wednesday 16th May. Students travelled to the Coram Campus in London where they showcased their company. Having been successful in the first two rounds, students were well rehearsed with what they needed to do and proceeded to set up their trade stand, answer gruelling questions at their two interviews and overcome nerves to deliver their presentation. Again, they were the last to present but provided some very strong competition to the outstanding performances that preceded them. This time the whole team and even members of the audience danced along to the sounds of “who let the dogs out” playing as background music to the video of their dog toys being used by their canine consumers. Sadly the team didn’t make it through to the UK Finals, but they did manage to scoop the award for Best Marketing! This is a fantastic achievement, certainly at this stage of the competition.
The team were commended on their product and that it aims to reduce the impact of climate change by making dog toys from discarded clothing. The judges were impressed with their business acumen and knowledge of their target market. I am immensely proud of the progress that all the Young Enterprise students have made - not just in the competition, but on a personal level. These are skills that the students will benefit from for life.
Well done to the representing students; Daniel Austin, Spencer Cox, Aisha Jokomba, Isabel Lilley and Mason Mckenna for their exceptional performances. They represent a large team who are also responsible for the success of the business.
