Year 10 GCSE Geography Field Trips
Year 10 recently had two Geography fieldwork trips, one to Epping Forest (in north-east London) on the 14th June and another to East Village and the Olympic Park on the 15th June. For the first trip we were studying how the characteristics of a river (its width, how fast the water flows, the depth, etc.) change going from the upper course to the lower course. The trip itself was fun and the weather was nice without being too hot. We travelled to the sites by coach, studying the river in 3 places in our geography groups. My favourite part of the day was collecting data from all sites along the river. On the 15th June, we all met at the Woolwich Arsenal DLR station, taking the DLR to East Village together where we would be examining how sustainable the Stratford regeneration is. At East Village we walked constantly (except during our lunchtime), visiting and studying all areas which were regenerated, we learned loads about the sites we visited and managed to interview locals on what they think of the regeneration. We also drew some field sketches which was the bit I enjoyed most. Overall, these 2 days were a great fun and an educational experience important for our Geography GCSE.

The second day of our fieldwork started with us all meeting at Woolwich Arsenal DLR Station, where we got on the DLR to Stratford International. Our field studies tutor Dan met us there, and we headed over to East Village, in order to start conducting our sustainability fieldwork. We had to complete many different tasks such as service tallies, environmental surveys and much more. It was so much fun walking around East Village as we got to see many cool things. My favourite part of the day was when we went to Olympic Park and drew some field sketches, and discovered juicy facts about the London 2012 Olympics. We then conducted some questionnaires with the public (which was so much fun) and then got back on the DLR to finish off our fieldwork trips!
