Young Enterprise Update
The Young Enterprise team has been busy creating more candles for their upcoming market stalls. If you’re in the area, pop in and see them at Old Spitalfields market on Tuesday 27th February or Greenwich Market on Wednesday 13th March.
The team has been lucky enough to benefit from the guidance of their business advisor, ex-BGS student Henry Wong. Henry was once the Managing Director of a Young Enterprise team here and is now a Developed Markets Equity Analyst at HSBC. He has been meeting with the team on a regular basis to get updates, help with goal setting and guide the team. Henry is pictured below with some of the team at one of their team meetings.

Jazz and Curry Evening 2024
On the 27th January 2024, the Music department hosted a ‘Jazz and Curry’ evening for the first time in 2 decades. We started the night off with Big Band, one of the three BGS Jazz Groups, as they played 5 pieces by a vast array of composers, like Charles Mingus and Fats Waller, with improvisational solos being seen throughout each piece by all the different instruments within the band. After Big Band’s first set finished, Junior Jazz went on stage to play their repertoire of many pieces as they impressed the crowd with their immense talent and superb improvisation abilities. Following the Junior Jazz group, we took a break as the guests and players sat down to eat their curry from the local curry house, The Jasmine, who were kind enough to provide a full buffet of Indian-based food. Whilst everyone was eating, a few players decided to play a set of more Jazz pieces to accompany the delicious assortment of food. After the break finished, it was time for the last of the three BGS Jazz Groups to play their pieces. The Improv Group played three pieces, showing not only their talent but their tremendous efforts as they played their pieces flawlessly, impressing not only the guests but everyone watching. To finish the night, Big Band played another set as they played the pieces masterfully, concluding a magnificent night of jazz with finesse.
Ethan Abbate, Year 12
Well done to all of our performers on this evening, and a huge thank you to Mr Laing for preparing the items with the bands. What a treat and I hope that we can make this a biannual thing!

Year 7 Netball Tournament
A testament to their dedication to training this year, not one, not two, but three Year 7 teams entered into the borough netball tournament against 13 teams. Hosted at our home ground, and in freezing conditions, there were smiles all round as our BGS 1 Team achieved a respectable 4th place. Well done ladies and thank you to our sports prefects Sophie, Beth and Mateja for their team management on the day.

Year 8 Netball
The Year 8s headed to Chis and Sid in what can only be described as arctic conditions. The girls were a pleasure to take; polite, hard-working and great ambassadors for BGS. A great result, placed them 3rd and 5th overall. Well done all!
There's plenty more netball to look forward to over the next few weeks.

Year 10 Netball
A great win for our Year 10 teams against St Matthew’s on Wednesday night. With some Year 9s helping out, both teams played some excellent netball. The 'A Team' won 17-4, whilst the 'B Team' secured a 14-9 win. Defensively, we marked our players through court, creating opportunities for interceptions whilst our attack brought the ball through court with speed and precision. A huge well done to the shooters for fantastic shooting.
Player of the match went to Lisa and Ariana.
Well done all!

KS3 Badminton
Well done to our awesome KS3 badminton team, who finished as runners-up in the Kent Schools Competition. The boys secured impressive wins against Langley Park and Gravesend Grammar in their group, before losing narrowly to a very strong Skinners’ team in the final.
Well done to James, Kapish, Arjun and Yashwin (the only Year 7 in the whole competition!).

Year 10 Basketball
Our Year 10 Kent Cup basketball campaign came to a close with defeat against Northfleet Technology College on Tuesday. It was a much improved performance from the team, but not quite enough to earn the win.
